In conversation with Imane

Oggi parliamo con Imane, style curator, personal shopper e amante del bello e della moda. Imane è una studentessa di farmacia ed un ragazza musulmana, che ci parla del desiderio, per il futuro, di vivere una moda più consapevole, rappresentativa della realtà, e soprattutto, un mondo che volga a un cambiamento ben più reale e autentico.

Mi chiamo Imane e mi piace descrivermi come un’anima appassionata. Non ho avuto un’infanzia facile, ho sofferto molto a livello psicologico. Mi sono sentita spesso priva di speranza e di conseguenza delusa da me stessa. Nonostante ciò, c’è sempre stata una parte di me che dentro di sé sentiva che meritavo di più, che i miei sogni e le mie aspirazioni fossero giusti e meritati e che la vita valeva la pena di essere vissuta. Credo, a un certo punto, di aver toccato il fondo e questo mi ha portato poi ad intraprendere un percorso di ripresa. È stato allora che ho iniziato a capire l’importanza della compassione e dell’amore verso sè stessi, ho capito che il viaggio sarebbe stato difficile ma che valeva la pena metterci tutto l’impegno per riuscirci. Questo percorso è andato di pari passo con la mia formazione accademica: una volta terminato il liceo, ho sentito il desiderio di saperne di più sulla scienza, che è alla base di noi stessi, del nostro corpo e del nostro benessere. Dato che ho sempre avuto una passione per la bellezza in generale e per cura della pelle, ho pensato che la farmacia fosse la scelta perfetta.

Well, my name is Imane and I like to describe myself as a passionate soul. I didn’t have an easy childhood growing up, I suffered a lot with my mental health. I often felt hopeless and disappointed in myself. Despite that, there was always a part of me who knew that I deserved more, that my dreams and aspirations were valid and life was worth living. I guess at some point I hit rock bottom, which lead me into a healing journey. That’s when I started understanding the importance of self compassion and self love, and that this ride is gonna be a difficult one but worth striving for.  This journey went hand-in-hand with my academic education: once I graduated from high school I really wanted to learn more about the science behind our bodies and since I had a passion for beauty and skincare I thought that pharmacy was the perfect choice.

Lavoro come personal shopper e curatrice di stile da molto tempo, mi viene facile quindi metter insieme gli abiti e creare outfit. È un qualcosa che mi dà davvero gioia. Ho iniziato a dare consigli di moda alla mia famiglia e ai miei amici e con il tempo ho raggiunto sempre più persone e clienti. Credo che parte del mio successo sia stato determinato anche dall’enorme lacuna che abbiamo nel mercato della moda. Innumerevoli volte, durante gli shooting, mi sono trovata in situazioni in cui mi venivano proposti look con maniche corte o abiti scollati, o addirittura mi venivano assegnate delle figure di hair stylist! Questo è un motivo per il quale mi piacerebbe iniziare a lavorare più a stretto contatto con i brand, nel backstage ad esempio e non solo come modella e creatrice di contenuti. L’industria della moda è in continua crescita e c’è il desiderio di vedere una maggiore e migliore rappresentazione e un’ondata di cambiamento più consapevole.

I’ve been working as personal shopper and style curator for a long time, it comes easy to me to style clothes and create outfits. It really gives me joy. I started giving fashion tips to my family and friends and with time I reached more clients. I believe that part of my success was also determined by the huge gap we have in the modest fashion market. Innumerable times, during shootings, I found myself in situations where I was given looks with short sleeves or low cut dresses, or even got assigned hair stylists! That’s a reason I would like to eventually start working hand-in-hand with brands more on the backstage and not just as model & content creator. The modest fashion industry is in continuous growth, and we’re eager to see more representation and a more conscious wave of change.

Self love, ovvero l’amor proprio, potrebbe essere considerato come una tua vera e propria dichiarazione d’intenti. Ma cosa significa veramente per te?
Per me l’amore per sè stessi significa scoprirsi, assumersi la responsabilità di arrivare a curarsi e risolvere i propri problemi, conoscere le proprie esigenze e i propri desideri e creare una vita in cui si possa essere se stessi in modo autentico. Qualsiasi cosa vogliate da qualcun altro, datela prima a voi stessi. Perché non importa cosa tu riceva, se non dai prima a te stesso ciò di cui hai bisogno, il resto non sarà mai abbastanza.

Self love could be interpreted as your mission statement, but what does it really mean to you?
For me self love means self discovery, taking the responsibility for your own healing, learning about your own needs and wants and with that create a life where you can be your authentic self. Whatever you want from someone else, give it to yourself first. Because no matter how many of them they give you, if you never gave it to yourself in the first place, it will never be enough.

Quale è la tua definizione di stile?
Potrei dire che il modo migliore per descrivere il mio stile personale è “senza tempo, senza sforzi e più è oversize meglio è!” Mi piace giocare con stili e tessuti diversi. La ricerca delle forme, del tessuto e del colore giusti è la parte più emozionante per me.

What is your personal definition of style?
The best way to describe my own personal style is timeless, effortless and the more oversized the better! I love to play with different styles and textures. The research of the right shape, fabric & color is the most exciting part for me.
