“Una nota dolce in questo 2020”
In Olanda è molto popolare da tempo, in Italia è il cantante più ricercato del momento, stiamo parlando di Dotan cantante, polistrumentista e produttore olandese di origini israeliane che ora punta alle classifiche internazionali.
Comparso a sorpresa nella classifica degli artisti più trasmessi dalle radio con il singolo “Numb“, che ci ha fatto cantare durante il lockdown, una ballata che afferma la determinazione nello sconfiggere l’insensibilità che ci circonda.
La sua musica introspettiva, intima e vera ha rapito il pubblico nazionale, canzoni che parlano di “vita vera” , in modo forte e dolce allo stesso tempo
Ora Dotan ci propone un altro singolo dell’album Numb: “No Words”.
No words affronta un tema altrettanto complicato quello dei periodi difficili, quando nessuna parola può aiutarci ad esprimere ciò che proviamo la musica può farlo: “No words, Silence, I just let the music speak “.
Ma oggi non è solo la musica a parlare ma anche lo stesso Dotan a parlare con la redazione di Spaghettimag.
Di seguito la nostra intervista a Dotan:
“ Ciao Dotan, Immagino che il tuo rapporto con la musica sia nato come tutte le passioni più forti, in modo naturale e appassionato, ma quando hai capito che la musica poteva diventare il tuo lavoro? “
“Sinceramente, è successo da poco. Ho lasciato il mio lavoro a 22 anni e ho deciso di comprare una chitarra. Ho iniziato a scrivere canzoni per me stesso e ancora non pensavo che sarei stato in grado di farne una carriera. Mi ci sono voluti diversi anni per trovare il coraggio di credere in me stesso, ma quando ho provato la sensazione di condividere la musica con un pubblico per la prima volta… ne sono rimasto affascinato. La musica è davvero terapeutica per me e penso che sia molto speciale il fatto che le persone si possano identificare con le mie canzoni o che sentano le cose quando le ascoltano.”
“Hai qualche cantante di riferimento che ha influenzato il tuo percorso artistico? “
“Sono cresciuto ascoltando molti cantautori come James Taylor, Neil Young e Paul Simon… tutti mi hanno ispirato a fare quello che faccio oggi. Ma onestamente ho sempre fatto il tipo di musica che volevo fare e non ho mai provato a suonare come qualcun altro. Penso che come artista sia importante trovare la propria voce e trovare ciò che ti rende unico.”
“Dopo il tuo grande successo in Olanda sei partito alla conquista dell’Italia, con due brani: “Numb” e “No Words”. Come hai accolto il successo della tua ultima canzone? “
È stato travolgente e un sogno che si è avverato! La risposta del popolo italiano è stata così grande e onestamente… andare in tour in Italia è sempre stato un grande obiettivo per me. Non vedo l’ora di venire a conoscere la gente là fuori.
“Come è cambiata la tua vita dall’uscita del tuo primo album?”
La mia vita è decisamente cambiata. Ho potuto vedere molti posti nel mondo e posso fare quello che amo ogni singolo giorno, che può ancora sembrare molto surreale. Quando ho pubblicato il mio album non avrei mai pensato che mi avrebbe permesso di viaggiare per il mondo e di incontrare così tante grandi persone. È stato un viaggio incredibile e mi sento come se fosse appena iniziato per me!
“C’è qualcosa nel mondo di oggi che non ti piace? E questo può essere cambiato attraverso la musica? “
Penso che mi piacerebbe vedere più gentilezza, soprattutto online. Le persone sono molto veloci a giudicarsi a vicenda e a dire le cose più odiose online da dietro i loro schermi. Penso che la musica possa aiutare a diffondere positività e amore. È su questo che sto cercando di concentrarmi soprattutto!
“ Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri? Puoi dirci qualcosa in anticipo?”
Sto finendo il mio album, che è molto emozionante e spero di tornare presto in tour. Sta arrivando un sacco di musica, questo è sicuro! Vi assicuro che presto verrò in Italia per alcune cose interessanti…

In Holland he’s been very popular for a long time, in Italy he’s the most sought-after singer of the moment, we’re talking about Dotan, a multi-instrumentalist singer and Dutch producer of Israeli origins who is now aiming at the international charts.
He appeared surprisingly in the ranking of the most broadcast artists on the radio with the single “Numb“, which made us sing during the lockdown, a ballad that affirms the determination to defeat the insensitivity that surrounds us.

“Hi Dotan, I guess your relationship with music was born like all the strongest passions, in a natural and passionate way, but when did you realize that music could become your work? “
It honestly kind of just happened. I quit my day job when I was 22 and decided to buy a guitar. I started writing songs for myself and I still didn’t think I was actually going to be able to make a career out of it. It took me several years to find the courage to believe in myself, but when I experienced the feeling of sharing music with an audience for the first time.. I was hooked. Music is really therapeutic for me and I think it’s very special that people can identify with my songs or will feel things when they listen to it.
“Do you have any reference singers who have influenced your artistic path? “
I grew up listening a lot to singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Neil Young and Paul Simon.. they have all inspired me to do what I do today. But honestly I have always made the kind of music that I wanted to make and have never tried to sound like someone else. I think as an artist it’s important to find your own voice and find whatever makes you unique.
” After your great success in Holland you left to conquer Italy, with two tracks : “Numb” and “ No Words”. How did you welcome the success of your last song? “
It’s been overwhelming and such a dream come true! The response from the Italian people has been so great and honestly.. touring in Italy has always been a big goal for me. I can’t wait to come over and meet the people out there.
“How has your life changed since the release of your first album?”
My life has definitely changed. I have been able to see many places in the world and I get to do what I love every single day, which still can feel very surreal. When I released my album I had never thought that it would allow me to travel the world and meet so many great people. It’s been such an incredible journey and I feel like it has just started for me!
“ Is there something in today’s world that you don’t like? And that can be changed through music? “
I think I would love to see more kindness, especially online. People are very quick to judge each other and say the most hateful things online from behind their screens. I think music could help spread positivity and love. That’s what I’m trying to focus on mostly!
“ What are your future projects? Can you tell us something in advance?”
I’m finishing up my album which is very exciting and I hope to be back on the road soon for a tour. A lot of music is coming, that’s for sure! I can assure you I’ll be coming to Italy soon for some exciting things..
